Canyon de Chelley is to me one of the most magical places on earth and Mummy Cave Ruins
is one of the nicer cliff dwellings in this National Park. Light and shadow play along the canyon wall and one can almost hear the echo of the raven in the stillness of this painting.
Canyon de Chelley boasts a thoroughly awe-inspiring landscape and is truly a place of great natural beauty. Whilst the nearby communities of Chinle and Window Rock is much more developed, with all of the modern accommodations as well as people playing Poker and Cheeky Bingo in the various casinos, this area remains relatively untouched. Much of the canyon is even restricted from tourists and visitors, unless accompanied by a park ranger or an authorized Navajo guide.
It's perhaps no wonder, then, that the Mummy Cave Ruins within this stunning canyon make for a great subject when painting. This example of oil on stretched canvas is part of the eye-catching Southwest Art range of paintings, entitled 'Up In The Rocks'. It is certainly an atmospheric piece, which would look great in almost any room.
