Grand Canyon
"Dancing on the Edge"
12X36 Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

My painting of the Grand Canyon was inspired by a trip that I took with my son and his family. This was the first time I've been back since I first saw it when I was about 9 years old, about the same age as my grand daughter was on this trip. We were there in the middle of the summer so it was hot, very hot, around 100 degrees. We scurried from one patch of shade to another as we took in the incredible view of this vast canyon. Both my son and I took many photos of course, more than half of them of my grand daughter Olive. We spent the night in a campground nearby , I in my RV and my son's family in a tent. A very memorable trip for me because I don't get to see them but a couple of times a year.

The Grand Canyon is immense, extending off into the distance as far as the eye can see. An d the environment is very dry, and like I said, hot! The cedar trees that live there seem to thrive in the hot dry climate and seem to grow right out of the rock, especially along the edge of the canyon. I tried to capture both the grandness of scale and the seemingly precarious foot hold these Cedar trees have on life along the edge.
